Driving, Museum, Driving, Museum, Driving

With our spontaneous departure from Gothenburg on Friday we got to take advantage of our membership with Harvest Hosts that night. We haven't had the opportunity to use this membership much, but it's such a fun concept to be able to stay on farms, wineries, and museums in exchange for supporting local businesses and nonprofits. The membership is dead cheap, so far we'd recommend it, especially if you're someone who does a lot of single nights and "touring" type of road trips (most harvest hosts only allow one night). We found a spot in Lincoln, NE which was only a few hours away and cut our long drive we had planned for Saturday in half so it was a win-win situation! Our spot was right across the street from an arcade, which was a nice option to go have a drink and wind down in.

We're suckers for pull tabs - and we actually won on one!

Saturday morning we spent touring our Harvest Host at the Museum of American Speed. Bradley had a blast of course, and it was informative enough to be interesting for even a non-car person like myself!

  1. From the children's section - peep the little kitchen inside!

  2. This car's name is Dale. Dale has three wheels. Dale is special.

  3. An original pace car.

  4. Need speed? Just put a jet in it!

  5. Very cool concept car using a carriage hearse body.

  6. wall of lunch boxes, can you find your fav?

We actually bookended this day with museums since our stop on Saturday night was at the Iowa Aviation Heritage Museum. I let Bradley do this one alone, assuming he would have a better time with fellow pilots without my tagging along, and boy was I right! He got to hang out for hours with these guys- talking planes, flying in a simulator, touring their on progress WWII restoration planes, and even climbing into a tank they use for local reenactments. He had so much fun and couldn't recommend this museum more.

Photo from the museum's website, since Bradley was too busy having fun to photograph!

Sunday was our longest drive yet, clocking in at 11 hours total. We're learning the car drive times and RV drive times are two very different things, and even if all goes well adding 2 to 3 hours to the time GPS says is a safe bet. We had planned to spend the next two weeks at little girl's point in Gogebic county, an award winning rockhounding spot. Sadly, as soon as we got up there, we realized it was not to be. There was no cell service on any of our networks (and we use three right now!) and the spot would have taken parking skills that we just haven't developed yet. We instead found a spot in Ashland, WI so Bradley could work the next day while we re-assessed our options for the rest of the month.

Not a bad view for a last minute spot!

The next morning we did manage to find a campground that had WIFI and a spot open through memorial day. It wasn't right on the lake, but it was at least closer, and was in the woods instead of in town. I spent the rest of the day exploring the cute little town of Ashland, WI before we made the move.

All the downtown trash bins were covered in mosaic - here's a couple favs.

The next day we made the move to our home for the next two weeks - a spot that we came to absolutely adore and that made it hard to leave Wisconsin!
